Three-month sales inch up 2% to EUR1.64bn (US$1.79bn)Champagne volumes in three months to end of March climb 14%Hennessy Cognac volumes slide 18% Moet Hennessy has started 2022 with a bump as first-quarter sales registered a very small lift on the corresponding period a year ago. Almost three months after posting an impressive 26% top-line leap in 2021, the wine & spirits division of LVMH today reported a 2% increase in sales from the quarter to the end of March. The unit's Champagne and Cognac businesses experienced contrasting fortunes in the period, with the former up by double digits in volume terms and the latter heading in the opposite direction. Demand for Champagne was described as "robust", particularly in Europe and Japan. However, Cognac flagship Hennessy suffered from the impact of supply chain issues during the quarter, particularly in the US. Over in China, which along with the US accounts for a hefty chunk of Hennessy's sales, localised COVID outbreaks coincided with a Chinese New Year that was timed unfavourably this year for Q1 numbers. Spirits stable mates Glenmorangie and Belvedere were credited with unspecified strong showings from the three months. !function(){"use strict";window.addEventListener("message",(function(e){if(void 0!==e.data["datawrapper-height"]){var t=document.querySelectorAll("iframe");for(var a in e.data["datawrapper-height"])for(var r=0;r
