Australia’s niche family-owned brewer Coopers is expecting sales of A$100m (US$72.8m) next financial year after logging a record trading profit of A$9.6m for financial 2003.

Coopers, based in the South Australian capital Adelaide, is a public, unlisted company and reveals its annual trading figures only by choice.

Managing director Dr Tim Cooper said the revenue milestone would come from increased sales along Australia’s eastern seaboard. Turnover for the year to June 30, 2003 rose 5% to A$83.7m.

Beer sales growth was forecast at 10% with premium brands the fastest growing sector in an otherwise flat market.

Sales in the home, South Australian market, accounted for 70% of the total. The company recently moved its brewing and other production facilities to a purpose-built complex at a cost of A$40.5m.
