Nordic wine and spirits company Altia has appointed Matti Nurmi to the post of chief information officer.

Nurmi will be responsible for Altia’s ICT strategy and its implementation in all markets, the company said. He will report to CFO Niklas Nylander.

“With his strong experience in strategic IT and digitalisation Nurmi will be a great accelerator for Altia’s business technology and consumer facing,” Nylander said. “Matti has also vast experience in leading multidisciplinary teams, and he has shown to be an inspirational people leader. We are excited to have him join the team.”

A spokesperson for Altia told just-drinks that previous to Nurmi’s appointment the company had an external interim CIO for the past 18 months.

Earlier this year, Altia acquired a stake in Finnish glögg producer Von Elk Co. The Helsinki-headquartered group, which already owns the Blossa glögg brand, confirmed the purchase of an unspecified minority holding in Von Elk in September. Privately-held Von Elk, founded six years ago, produces a sparkling variant of glögg, which is a mulled wine traditionally consumed in Scandinavia.
