The global consumer industry noticed a 4.3% drop in IT hiring activity in July 2022 over the previous month, led by Unternehmensgruppe Theo Muller S.e.c.s.’s 4.03% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The consumer industry’s overall hiring activity declined 0.03% when compared with June 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 2.57% share of the global consumer industry’s hiring activity in July 2022, up 0.01% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of July 2022 were 6.24% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 14.83% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive consumer IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 38.18% emerged as the top IT occupation in the consumer hiring activity in July 2022, a 15.64% decline over the previous month. Computer and Information Analysts came in second with a share of 22.44% in July 2022, down 5.94% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 19.43% share in July 2022, a decline of 14.37% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 13.73% share in July 2022 and a drop of 18.99% over June 2022.

Top five consumer companies by recruitment activity in July 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 7.05% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global consumer industry during July 2022 over June 2022.

Unternehmensgruppe Theo Muller S.e.c.s. posted 94 IT jobs in July 2022 and registered a drop of 19.66% over the previous month, followed by PepsiCo with 89 jobs and a 13.59% decline. Haier Group with 79 IT jobs and Fujitsu General with 79 jobs, recorded a 23.3% decline and a 1.28% rise, respectively, while HelloFresh recorded a 74.36% rise with 68 job postings during July 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in consumer industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global consumer IT hiring activity in July 2022 with a 44.96% share, which marked a 19.69% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 28.91%, registering a 12.24% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 21.28% share and an 8.99% drop over June 2022.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 3.73% and a month-on-month rise of 8.75%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.12%, registering a flat growth over the previous month.
