The global consumer industry noticed a 2.4% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2022 over the previous month, led by The J. R. Simplot’s 4.29% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The consumer industry’s overall hiring activity increased 1.66% when compared with August 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 2.8% share of the global consumer industry’s hiring activity in September 2022, down 0.27% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2022 were 11.93% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 23.44% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive consumer IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 35.66% emerged as the top IT occupation in the consumer hiring activity in September 2022, a 15.12% decline over the previous month. Computer and Information Analysts came in second with a share of 24.15% in September 2022, up 6.67% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with an 18.51% share in September 2022, a decline of 13.7% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 13.86% share in September 2022 and a rise of 6.4% over August 2022.

Top five consumer companies by recruitment activity in September 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 6.05% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global consumer industry during September 2022 over August 2022.

The J. R. Simplot posted 108 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered a rise of 31.71% over the previous month, followed by Nestle with 88 jobs and a 13.73% decline. Haier Group with 85 IT jobs and Carrier Global with 81 jobs, recorded a 6.25% growth and a 20.9% rise, respectively, while Petco Health and WellnessInc recorded a 7.32% drop with 76 job postings during September 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in consumer industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global consumer IT hiring activity in September 2022 with a 51.67% share, which marked a 5% rise over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 26.53%, registering a 1.52% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with an 18.67% share and a 30.47% drop over August 2022.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 2.18% and a month-on-month drop of 20.29%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.95%, registering a 26.32% increase over the previous month.
