The global consumer industry noticed an 11.8% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2022 over the previous month, led by PepsiCo’s 6.43% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The consumer industry’s overall hiring activity declined 6.03% when compared with September 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 2.62% share of the global consumer industry’s hiring activity in October 2022, down 0.26% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of October 2022 were 8.97% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 19.83% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive consumer IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 33.49% emerged as the top IT occupation in the consumer hiring activity in October 2022, a 23.43% decline over the previous month. Computer and Information Analysts came in second with a share of 23.29% in October 2022, down 19.48% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 21.47% share in October 2022, a decline of 4.95% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 14.67% share in October 2022 and a drop of 12.26% over September 2022.

Top five consumer companies by recruitment activity in October 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 32.99% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global consumer industry during October 2022 over September 2022.

PepsiCo posted 138 IT jobs in October 2022 and registered a rise of 228.57% over the previous month, followed by J. R. Simplot with 74 jobs and a 31.48% decline. McCain Foods with 62 IT jobs and Panasonic with 59 jobs, recorded a flat growth and a 6.35% drop, respectively, while Carrier Global recorded a 28.4% drop with 58 job postings during October 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in consumer industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global consumer IT hiring activity in October 2022 with a 53.38% share, which marked a 13.64% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 24.87%, registering a 23.71% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with an 18.35% share and a 20.88% drop over September 2022.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 2.42% and a month-on-month drop of 5.45%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.98%, registering a 12.5% decrease over the previous month.
