The global consumer industry noticed a 1.3% drop in IT hiring activity in August 2022 over the previous month, led by Nestle’s 3.76% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The consumer industry’s overall hiring activity declined 1.21% when compared with July 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 2.6% share of the global consumer industry’s hiring activity in August 2022, down 0.27% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of August 2022 were 3.78% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 8.75% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 39.78% emerged as the top IT occupation in the consumer hiring activity in August 2022, a 7.38% growth over the previous month. Computer and Information Analysts came in second with a share of 21.24% in August 2022, down 1.29% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 20.44% share in August 2022, a growth of 6.39% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 12.36% share in August 2022 and a drop of 10.34% over July 2022.
Top five consumer companies by recruitment activity in August 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 57.09% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global consumer industry during August 2022 over July 2022.
Nestle posted 95 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a drop of 33.1% over the previous month, followed by Petco Health and WellnessInc with 82 jobs and a 105% growth. Haier Group with 80 IT jobs and Hisense Visual Technology with 80 jobs, recorded a 1.27% growth and a flat growth, respectively, while The J. R. Simplot recorded a flat growth with 73 job postings during August 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in consumer industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global consumer IT hiring activity in August 2022 with a 46.2% share, which marked a 2.82% rise over the previous month.
Asia-Pacific stood next with 25.36%, registering a 26.98% month-on-month growth. Europe was the third leading region with a 24.72% share and a 10.73% drop over July 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 2.73% and a month-on-month drop of 25%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.99%, registering a 16.67% decrease over the previous month.
