Notably, the number of 3D printing-related patent applications in the consumer industry was 120 in Q3 2023, versus 160 in the prior quarter.
The top five companies accounted for 46% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Ricoh filed the most 3D printing patents within the consumer industry in Q3 2023. The company filed 21 3D printing-related patents in the quarter, compared with 14 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Signify with 14 3D printing patent filings, NIKE (10 filings), and Chanel (5 filings) in Q3 2023.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 33% share of total patent filings
The largest share of 3D printing related patent filings in the consumer industry in Q3 2023 was in the US with 33%, followed by China (13%) and Japan (8%). The share represented by the US was 1% higher than the 32% share it accounted for in Q2 2023.
