UK fine wine group Coterie Holdings has acquired Hong Kong-based importer and distributor Links Concept Family Wine Merchants.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Set up in 2000, Links Concept operates across Hong Kong, Macau and China.

Its distribution portfolio includes a range of international brands from Spain's Familia Torres and France's Champagne Louis Roederer to Italy's Marchesi Antinori.

As part of the deal, the businesses "will accelerate the growth of premium wine in Asia, bringing producers closer to a rapidly expanding base of fine wine consumers", a joint statement said.

Links Concept will join Coterie's portfolio of UK wine merchants, including Lay & Wheeler and Hallgarten & Novum Wines.

Commenting on the purchase, Michael Saunders, CEO of Coterie said: “We are delighted to welcome Links Concept Family Wine Merchants into the Coterie family.

"Their focus on quality, their excellent producer portfolio, and their deep knowledge of the Hong Kong and China markets makes them an ideal partner.

"This acquisition strengthens our international footprint and allows us to offer even greater opportunities for the family-owned wineries we represent.”

Coterie's portfolio also includes the bonded storage facility Coterie Vaults, wine lending services through Jera Wine and Global Wine Solutions, which supplies the superyacht sector.

Alice de La Fuente Saez, director, and Jermann Lai, managing director, of Links Concept Family Wine Merchants, added: “For more than 25 years we have worked to introduce some of the world’s most exciting producers to Hong Kong and beyond.

"Joining Coterie gives us the resources and global reach to take that mission further while staying true to our values of quality and partnership. We are excited to begin this next chapter together."

Last year CEO Michael Saunders told Just Drinks Coterie was eyeing international expansion for its buying, storage and supply services, and that he saw most potential for growth in Asia.

Saunders said at the time sites of interest in Asia were Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei and Tokyo.
