Regional wine organisation the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins du Roussillon (CIVR) is launching a new three-year promotional campaign in the UK, in a bid to capitalise on a recent sales spike. The plan, which runs until 2024, will include a series of events and initiatives, including a trade and press tasting in June, a sommelier masterclass in September and trips to the region for buyers and press. Last year, the UK represented 5% of Roussillon’s exports by volume, and 6% by value, following a surge in the first half of the year, when exports to the UK were up 41% by volume and 48% by value. The average price-per-bottle in the country also increased for all styles of wine. “The UK is a key market for Roussillon wines,” said Eric Aracil, co-director in charge of exports at the CIVR. “It is the seventh importer of AOP wines from Roussillon and the number one export market for Roussillon’s Vins Doux Naturels (fortified sweet wines) by volume.” He added: “The communications campaign we kick-started in the UK in the spring of 2021 has given us great momentum … Alongside increasing the profile of our region, the main focus of our 2022 campaign will be to support the commercial efforts of Roussillon wine producers and their importers.” What’s coming up in wine in 2022? - Click here for Just Drinks' predictions for the year ahead
