Saint Arnold Brewing Co has reported an 18% jump in production in the first half of 2014 and is eyeing expansion.

The Texas-based firm, the US’s 48th biggest craft brewer by volume, said it produced 31,960 barrels of beer in the first six months of the year. The company did not detail total sales, or profits.

Saint Arnold said that, despite its “rapid pace of growth during the past decade” it is forecasting “continued strong demand from … the Gulf Coast states of Texas, Louisiana and Florida” where its beers are available.

The company, which claims to be Texas’s oldest craft brewer, also announced it has completed an expansion of its brewhouse, with the installation of a dedicated brew kettle. The vessel will allow six brews to be completed every 24 hours, compared to the current three.

Saint Arnold has also secured a lot to the east of the brewery for future expansion, it said.

Craft brewers currently have around a 6.5% volume share of the US beer market and a 10.2% share by value. The country now boasts 3,040 breweries – the highest number since the 1870s
