The price of soft drinks sold in the UK on-trade will have to be clearly displayed in pubs, the Department of Trade and Industry has told the industry.
The move, which will become law in March next year, follows a series of complaints from the public, about the high prices of soft drinks in the sector. Consumers will now be able to see exactly what they will have to pay before they buy.
The DTI said pubs and bars that display soft drink prices charge less on average than outlets that do not.
Restaurants will also have to show prices on menus around the entrance.
Consumer Minister Gerry Sutcliffe said: “This will mean there are no nasty surprises when people buy a soft drink in a pub or restaurant.”
