Neither Champagne Ayala nor Pol Roger had an official comment to share on the news when approached by Just Drinks.

Mouflard will replace Laurent d’Harcourt who has held the president role since 2013, according to LinkedIn. He took the reins from Patrice Noyelle.

According to LinkedIn, d’Harcourt joined Pol Roger in 2006 as an export director and member of the board, according to his profile on the site.

The incoming Pol Roger chief has headed up Champagne Ayala since 2012 and prior to that held a senior role at Champagne Bollinger, according to LinkedIn.

Based in Epernay, northern France, Pol Roger makes a range of Champagnes which are sold globally. These include its Blanc de Blancs, Rich Demi Secs and Brut Réserve.

At the end of March, Pol Roger ‘s vineyards were hit badly by a recurring frost. In a statement last month, the group said this year had been the second-worst on record for the Champagne region in 23 years, and that an average of 38% of vineyard buds had been lost.

“The Pol Roger vineyards experienced a similar level of impact to that experienced across the appellation, revealing significant heterogeneity, at times even within individual plots,” the group said.

Pol Roger continued to see varied weather conditions in April and May, with April in particular being the driest month ever recorded by the group. The business however still expects to see an early harvest beginning in August, which it said is “in line with recent vintages”.

According to findings from the trade body Comité Champagne the industry’s sales have been struggling, with volumes declining for the the third consecutive year in 2025.

Data, released by the body at the start of this year, showed volumes dipped by “just under 2%” in 2025 to 266 million bottles.

However, some in the industry have started seeing things improve. Competitor to Ayala and Pol Roger Laurent-Perrier recently recorded an increase in annual sales of its Champagne, marking a bounce back from a decline in the company’s previous financial year.
