Pepsi Raw uses unheated cola spices for “a more refreshing taste”, PepsiCo said. A zero-sugar version will be launched alongside a regular Pepsi Raw, both with an SRP of JPY115 (US$1.05) per 34cl can.

A statement late last week described the CSD as offering “the highest level of exhilaration in Pepsi history”.

PepsiCo, which uses Suntory Holdings as its Japanese bottler, said Pepsi Raw adds to its portfolio of Japan-only beverages. The company launched a Japan-only Pepsi in 2019 that uses the yuzu fruit as a flavouring. The previous year, three flavours were added to the Pepsi J-Cola line-up including a Midnight variant that was infused with cinnamon.

The Coca-Cola Co also makes a number of Japan-only drinks. In 2017, Coca-Cola Japan released Coca-Cola Plus, a fibre-enriched, “fat-blocking” soft drink.
