Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia expects to turn around two years of negative profit growth by posting a rise in pretax profits this year, the Bernama news agency said today, quoting Carlsberg Chairman Jorgen Bornhoft.

Despite the impact of the SARS virus, Borhhoft said: “We are looking at every possibility of an uptrend (in pretax profit) this year.”

SARS had not resulted in any significant drop in the consumption of its beer products. But on a week-to-week basis for the past few weeks, the company had seen a slight decline in consumption. The concern would grow, though, idf SARS continued to spread throughout the year.
