Coming up at this year’s London International Wine & Spirits Fair…

  • Closure producer Amcor (Stand I3) will be joined on its stand at this year’s wine fair by several winegrowers, and will invite visitors to taste their wines throughout the exhibition. These producers will be on hand to explain why they have chosen the Stelvin screw cap for their products. Also, Michelin-star-rated chef Adam Gray will be presenting his culinary creations on 17 and 18 May, from midday to 1500, and matching these to the wines.
  • The Argentine Export Promotions Council (CFI) (Stands Q25-R20-S20) is bringing a group of 25 wineries to the fair. Wines will be on show from each of Argentina’s key regions including Neuquen, Mendoza, Salta, San Juan and La Rioja. Amongst the group, seven wineries will be making their debut in the UK. For more information, contact Sophie Jump at info@jswinesolutions.com.
  • Wines of Turkey (Stand G45) will be holding several tastings over the three days. The tutored tastings will be hosted under the campaign banner ‘Heart of the Grand Terrain’. Isa Bal, head sommelier of The Fat Duck, will look at “The Best Turkish Wines for the British On-Trade” at 1130 on 17 May, then later in the week on the IWSC stand G25 at 1100 on 19 May for a look at “Turkey’s Rising Stars: Best of the New Turkish Wines”. Charles Metcalfe will guide visitors through “Top Turkish wines, including winners in the 2011 International Wine Challenge’ in the Masterclass Theatre on 18 May at 1630, whilst Caroline Gilby MW will be offering a tasting tour of indigenous and international varieties on stand G45 at 1100, also on 18 May. Entitled ‘Bottling Wine and Spirits in a Changing Climate – Going Green’, the session will take place on 17 May from 1400 to 1515 in the briefing theatre at the organisation’s stand. The session will provide an update on industry achievements and announce the findings of new research that could help a company cut its packaging-related carbon emissions by 20%. There will be an opportunity to debate the findings of the work with “our panel of experts”. To reserve a place, email sue.baughan@wrap.org.uk.
