Pernod Ricard‘s Castle Brands division has lined up the second bottling from its Goslings rum brand’s ‘Papa Seal’ series in the US.

As Castle approaches the first anniversary of its takeover by Pernod, the unit yesterday released details of Papa Seal 2020. The expression, which is limited to 1,500 units exclusively for the US, comes two years after the series of single barrel Bermudan rums kicked off with a 15-year-old rum.

Retailing at US$199 per 75cl bottle, the latest bottling contains rum of between ten and 21 years old that has been matured in ex-Bourbon barrels before being blended and aged for a further two years in American white oak barrels in Bermuda. The label will include a barrel and bottle number as well as a hand-written bottling date.

Papa Seal 2020 will be available through the off-premise channel in 16 US states, including California, Florida, New York and Texas, as well as online at Flaviar and Caskers.

“Goslings Papa Seal is one of only a handful of single barrel rums currently on the market … ,” said Malcolm Gosling, CEO of Castle’s Goslings division. “We hope that Papa Seal joins Family Reserve Old Rum, our original annual premium release, as the entry for many people to discover the vibrancy of sipping rum in the same way as a fine whiskey, brandy, or Cognac.”

Pernod’s purchase of Castle Brands last October was predominantly positioned as a Bourbon play with Castle’s Jefferson’s brand. On the rum side, the wine and spirits giant controls the Havana Club brand in a joint-venture with the Cuban state.
