Brown-Forman has signed a solar energy arrangement for its Jack Daniel’s distillery in Tennessee.
The “long-term” purchase agreement, announced this week, will see the Lynchburg site gain access to 20 megawatts of energy created from solar means per year. Nashville-based energy producer Silicon Ranch will be responsible for generating the power as part of Brown-Forman’s partnership with business energy provider the Tennessee Valley Authority.
Specific financial details were not disclosed.
“Our commitment to making great whiskey is only matched by our commitment to preserving the world … through sustainable practices,” said Jack Daniel’s assistant GM, Melvin Keebler. “We’re excited to be the first distillery to sign a Green Invest deal (with TVA) that will provide nearly three-quarters of our electricity needs.”
According to Brown-Forman, the Lynchburg distillery already has a ‘zero waste to landfill’ policy in place.
