Exactly 888 bottles of the 38-year-old Black Warrior will go on sale, initially in Shanghai. The number eight is considered lucky in Chinese culture because the character is a homonym of ‘fortune’.

The release is the third in Bowmore’s Chinese Mythical Guardians Series and pays homage to the Black Warrior, a symbol of longevity, power and tenacity. The previous releases comprise the 37-Year-Old Fenghuang Edition and the 36-Year-Old Dragon Edition. One more in the series is expected to launch.

“Following the incredible response to both the 36-year-old and 37-year-old China exclusives, we are delighted to reveal this third edition within the series that continues to celebrate influential and honoured figures within Asian culture,” said David Turner, Bowmore distillery manager. “This expression has been crafted from a parcel of second fill sherry casks, hand selected and watched over for more than three decades.”
