
Suntory and its US unit Beam Suntory will release first-half results on Friday. Here, just-drinks takes a closer look at performance in the three months to the end of June:
- At the beginning of the second quarter, Bernstein analysts said Beam Suntory was well-positioned in the healthier-performing spirits segments in the US
- Later in April, the spirits arm launched a new expression of its Courvoisier Cognac exclusively in China, followed by Travel Retail-exclusive Courvoisier Artisan Edition in May
- A spate of whisk(e)y launches followed in the month, with The Chita Japanese single grain whisky, Booker’s Rye, Knob Creek 2001 Limited Edition and the roll-out of Laphroaig Lore in the US
- At the end of May, Beam Suntory appointed a new CFO as it made a number of management changes and restructured regional units
- In June, the spirits arm hit back at reports highlighting the discord between the US and Japanese management
- Meanwhile, the Union of European Soft Drinks Associations (UNESDA) announced the appointment of Suntory Europe Beverage & Food CEO Stanislas de Gramont as its next president
- A few days later, GlaxoSmithKline said it would sell the last of its Lucozade and Ribena assets, in Nigeria, to Suntory
- Towards the end of June, the firm announced plans to bring the Spanish gin range Larios to the UK.
