Asia Pacific

  • Asia Pacific accounts for 34% of the global beer market, ahead of the Americas (32%), Europe (27%) and Africa & Middle East (7%)
  • The region is eexpected to contribute 53% of global beer volume growth between 2014 and 2025, with 31% coming from China alone
  • In the past five years, A-B InBev's sale in Asia Pacific grew two to three times faster than volumes, and EBITDA grew 1.3-times faster than sales

China

  • China represents 66% of Asia's beer volumes and 23% of global beer volumes
  • In Beijing, per-capita-consumption is 100 litres, compared to a national average of 40 litres
  • Super-premium and premium beer prices are seven-times and three-times greater than regular prices, respectively. Gross margins are nine-times and five-times greater, respectively
  • In the first six months of this year, growth in the super-premium and premium beer category in China was 30% and 10%, respectively
  • A-B InBev claims to have a 57% share of the premium category in China
  • The traditional trade accounts for half of China's beer industry, with restaurants making up 43% and night life 8%
  • A-B InBev's beer market share in China has grown from 12.2% in 2012 to 18.3% in the first-half of this year. The company has a 29.2% share of China's profit pool
  • A-B InBev has 49 breweries in China. In the past five years it has opened eight greenfield breweries
  • The company has distribution into 2m out of a total of 5m to 6m outlets in the country
  • About two-thirds of beer in China is drunk by men
