The global consumer industry experienced an 82% rise in new job postings related to internet of things in Q3 2022 compared with the previous quarter, according to GlobalData’s whitepaper on Internet of Things in Consumer – Hiring Activity in Q3 2022. This compares to an 85% increase versus Q3 2021.

Notably, Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers jobs accounted for a 10% share of the global consumer industry’s internet of things-related total new job postings in Q3 2022, up 14% over the prior quarter.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers, with a share of 10%, emerged as the top internet of things-related job roles within the consumer industry in Q3 2022, with new job postings rising by 14% quarter-on-quarter. First-Line Supervisors of Sales Workers came in second with a share of 8% in Q3 2022.

The other prominent internet of things roles include Retail Salespersons with a 5% share in Q3 2022, Opticians, Dispensing with a 5% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in consumer industry accounted for 280% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q3 2022 were Luxottica Group, Signify, Sleep Number and Carrier Global. Together they accounted for a combined share of 280% of all internet of things-related active jobs in the consumer industry.

Luxottica Group posted 566 internet of things-related new jobs in Q3 2022, Signify 195 jobs, Sleep Number 151 jobs, and Carrier Global 94 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 37% share of total active job postings, Q3 2022

The largest share of internet of things-related new job postings in the consumer industry in Q3 2022 was in the US with 37% followed by Australia (25%) and New Zealand (4%). The share represented by the US was 13 percentage points lower than the 50% share it accounted for in Q2 2022.
