The trade association for New Zealand’s wine industry is switching chairs, with Clive Jones replacing John Clarke.
New Zealand Winegrowers confirmed the results of an election of its members earlier today. Clarke makes way for Jones after spending two years as chair and fourteen on the organisation’s board.

The current GM & winemaker at Nautilus Estate in Marlborough, Jones has been in the wine industry for approaching 30 years. Having spent five years on the board of New Zealand Winegrowers, he moves up from deputy chair, which he assumed in 2018.
“John [Clarke] has become an integral part of the New Zealand wine industry over the past 40 years,” said Jones. “During his time on the board, the New Zealand wine industry has made grand strides and has secured a strong international reputation for premium and sustainable wines.
“I believe the New Zealand wine industry needs diversity across region, variety and size of business to be strong. A cooperative and united approach, combined with an absolute focus on quality, has served us well in the past and must continue to ensure our success in the future.”
The recent election also saw four additions to the organisation’s board, two of whom – Misha Wilkinson and Emma Taylor – are women. “It is the first time that two women have been elected to the board of New Zealand Winegrowers, with five being nominated in these elections,” Jones added.
