Demand for organic vineyards in France is set to double within five years, according to a leading international estate agency in the wine sector.

Wine professionals are seeking out organic vineyards to reflect growing interest in wine made from organic grapes, according to Vinea Transacation, an international agency that represents 30 vineyard estate agents in several European countries.

Organic vineyard area in France is increasing by up to 25% per year, it said.

Sales of organic vineyards are set to double to account for a tenth of all French vineyard sales within five years.

The group’s prediction comes on the eve of one of France’s biggest organic wine exhibitions, Millésime Bio, to begin in Montpellier on 25 January.

Montpellier is regional capital for Languedoc Roussillon, which is estimated to contain around two thirds of France’s organic vines. Neighbouring Côtes du Rhône and Bordeaux’s Gironde area are also popular.
