Collapsed Cockburns of Leith, the oldest surviving wine merchant in Scotland, has been bought out by Edinburgh Wine Importers, a wholesaler controlled by Sir David Murray.
Murray has acquired the Cockburns of Leith brand name, as well as its debt, customer listings and some stock, for an undisclosed fee.
Edinburgh-based Cockburns, which counts Sir Walter Scott and King George IV among its past customers, collapsed into administration last week after seeing orders decline in the UK’s recession.
“We received a significant amount of interest in Cockburns of Leith and are pleased to have concluded a successful sale in a short timescale,” said administrator Ernst & Young.
Sir David Murray owns Edinburgh Wine Importers via his investment vehicle, Murray International Holdings.
