Coming up at this year’s London International Wine Fair…

  • Freixenet (Stand K50) will be hosting vertical tastings of Chateau Sociando-Mallet at 1400 on both the Tuesday and Wednesday of the LIWF. The tastings, hosted by Pascal Roby from the Medoc-based chateau, and Richard Bampfield MW, will provide an opportunity to compare the 2008, 2009 and 2010 vintages of both the first and second wine, and will also include older vintages of the first wine. Lucien Guillemet, owner of the Margaux Grand Cru Classé Chateau Boyd-Cantenac, will be hosting a vertical tasting of his wines on the stand on the Wednesday at 1030. Finally, at 1100 on the Thursday, Richard Bampfield will tutor a tasting of around a dozen 2010 Bordeaux Primeurs. To attend any of these tastings, email bampwine@googlemail.com.
  • South West France Wines (Stand G22/1) will host a series of seminars by ‘The Wine Gang’ on its stand. On Tuesday at 1130, Joanna Simon presents ‘From Aperitif to Dessert’, followed by Anthony Rose looking at ‘A Selection for the Wine List’ at 1400. Then, on Wednesday at 1130, Tom Cannavan presents ‘Whites of the South West’, followed, at 1500 by Jane Parkinson looking at ‘Indigenous South West Grape Varieties. Finally, at 1130 on Thursday, David Williams looks at ‘Reds of the South West’. To register for a seminar, email southwest.wines@sopexa.com.
  • Champagne Jacquart (Enotria Stand N40) will unveil its new Mosaïque range at the fair next week. Showcasing new packaging, the range consists of four key cuvées: Brut Mosaïque NV, Rosé Mosaïque NV, Blanc de Blanc 2005 and Extra Brut NV. The top of the range cuvee Brut de Nominée will also be presented. The entire range will be available for tasting on Enotria’s stand, Jacquart’s new UK agent.
  • Consumer Question Time‘, an industry briefing session at the fair, will give the wine industry an opportunity to put their questions directly to a panel of consumers. Delegates will be able to ask wine drinkers how they choose their wines, how they interact with brands, how they might be encouraged to try new wines and how they think wine producers, brand managers and retailers can make the language of wine easier to understand. Leading the discussion will be Tim Wilson, managing director of the Wilson Drinks Report, and Bernadette Costello, communications consultant at Costello Media. The briefing will be held at Stand Q75 on Tuesday between 1100 and 1200. To book a seat, email tim.wilson@wilson-drinks-report.com or info@costellomedia.co.uk.
