In a statement, Sibeg Coca-Cola, which held an event today (7 July) to mark the start of the project, said the facility would “increase operational efficiency, optimise the management of logistics and support volume growth”.

The bottler is spending €51m ($x) to build a warehouse for the automated storage of goods, with a capacity of around 43,000 pallets. It will be connected to the existing plant at the Catania site through an elevated tunnel.

Sibeg Coca-Cola said the warehouse would automate the flow of raw materials to the bottling plant’s production lines and then move finished products back towards storage and loading ports.

“Investing in advanced automation means increasing competitiveness and programming capacity but it also means consolidating a modern, smart, sustainable production infrastructure in Catania that is ready to face the challenges of the coming years,” general manager Luca Busi said.

Set up in 1960, Sibeg Coca-Cola’s Catania plant has eight production lines, handling brands including Coca-Cola, Monster Energy products and Acqua di Tepelene water.

The company said the project should be completed in July next year, with the warehouse up and running in November.

Busi added: “After the aseptic line, the eighth production line inaugurated last year, this investment represents a clear and concrete industrial choice: we continue to strengthen Sibeg Coca-Cola as an advanced production centre in the south [of Italy].”
