Reyes Beverage Group has widened its planned acquisition of assets from fellow US distributor Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC).

In January, Reyes announced it was in talks to buy RNDC’s operations in six US states and Washington, DC.

A spokesperson from Reyes said the distributor now expects to buy assets in five other states.

The talks originally took in Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, South Carolina, Virginia and Washington, DC.

The scope of the potential deal has been expanded to Arizona, Colorado, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas but now excludes Illinois.

Reyes CEO Tom Day told Just Drinks the transaction would deepen the distributor’s presence across new and existing territories. “This is an important milestone in Reyes’ history,” he added.

Reyes and RNDC both confirmed they are aiming to close the deal by the end of May.

A deal would mark another significant change to RNDC’s network in the US. Last year, the distributor left California.

RNDC, headquartered in Texas, operates across 39 states and Washington, D.C., distributing brands for groups including Pernod Ricard and Edrington.

Reyes, which calls itself the largest US beer distributor, has expanded through acquisitions and contract wins.

It runs 20 distribution businesses across 12 US markets, spanning beer, wine, spirits and non-alcoholic products.

In January, RNDC announced it had secured new funding from its lenders. The distributor said it had reached a deal with its lenders for “significant additional financing”.

RNDC said the latest funds will be used to “support” its operations as it “continues to align its organisational structure, operational capabilities, and portfolio focus to ensure executional excellence”.
