Australia’s Taylors Wines has appointed former Delegat Group executive John Freeman as its new CEO.

Mitchell Taylor, Taylors Wines’ managing director for 25 years, will move to chairman of the board, according to a statement. Freeman will take on the role of Taylors Wines CEO on 21 July.

According to Freeman’s LinkedIn profile, he has spent the last two years at Australia-based private-equity firm Redwood North.

Freeman worked for Oyster Bay brand owner Delegat Group across two stints. His most recent role, from 2018 to 2021, was MD.

Mr Taylor said Freeman has a “strong track record in delivering growth, knows what it takes to compete successfully and consistently and is well-positioned to drive Taylors Wines’ next stage of development”.

Founded in 1969 by Bill Taylor Snr. and his sons, Bill and John, Taylors Wines markets wine under brands including The Pioneer, The Visionary and St Andrews.
