French investment firm Artémis Domaines is in talks to buy Burgundy stalwart Château de Puligny-Montrachet from the de Montille family, it confirmed to Just Drinks.

The Paris-headquartered investor, owned by the Pinault family of Château Latour fame, owns six properties across Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Rhône Valley, Champagne and Napa Valley, California.

A spokesperson said: “We can confirm an interest for the real estate of Château de Puligny-Montrachet.”

Founder François Pinault reportedly already owns a half-hectare plot of land at Château du Puligny-Montrachet, which he bought for €1m ($1.09m) in 2012. The de Montille family has owned the estate since 2012.

French business title Challenges last week reported Artémis Domaines was simultaneously looking to re-sell around 40 hectares from Burgundian property Bouchard Père & Fils, which it bought in 2022.

But the spokesperson refuted this claim, adding there was “no discussions regarding the sale of parcels of land acquired through its purchase of Bouchard Père & Fils”.

Just Drinks has contacted Artémis Domaines for more information on its plans.

It follows the company’s sale of Champagne Henriot last October, to Terroirs et Vignerons de Champagne (TEVC).

Artémis Domaines attained the Henriot brand in October 2022 after it merged with the label’s owner, Maisons & Domaines Henriot, to form the Artémis Domaines Group.

The Pinault family reportedly owns three-quarters of the Artémis Domaines Group, and the Henriot family the remainder. François Pinault, who has a net worth of around $30bn, founded luxury fashion company Kering, which owns brands including Alexander McQueen and Yves Saint Laurent.

A spokesperson told Just Drinks at the time that the motivation of the merger was to create an “unparalleled ensemble” of estates, more than “building a commercial advantage”.

“On both groups, our estates are well-known and benefit from strong and sound reputations in the world of fine wines. This being said, it is certain that the gathering of these jewels and talents will add to the prestige,” they added.

Two months after selling Champagne Henriot, Artémis Domaines bought outright Champagne producer Maison Jacquesson. It had acquired a minority stake in the House from the Chiquet family in February 2022. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
