The recent tax increases on the Japanese low-malt beer happoshu have hit sales of the product, according to a survey published in the Asian press today.

The survey was conducted by Japan’s top five brewers and found close to 20% of low-malt beer drinkers reduced their consumption of the drinks since the tax increases in May. While nearly 1% have stopped drinking the beer altogether.
