Indian soft drinks retailers are on a charm offensive to repair damage caused earlier this year by a report from pressure group the Centre for Science and Environment, alleging the detection of pesticide residues in soft drink samples.
PepsiCo later applied at the Delhi High Court to restrain the group from publishing the report and the case is pending.
Now, McDonald’s India, for instance, has launched a reassurance campaign about its Coca-Cola drinks, stressing they are blended by “state-of-the art” equipment at their outlets using water filtered by reverse osmosis and UV-ray treatment. The Indian divisions of Yum Restaurants and Domino’s Pizza have made similar statements highlighting confidence in their colas.
