Radeberger wants to play a part in the possible shake-up of the German beer industry. The brewer has called a press conference for today at short notice saying it wants to be involved in the sector’s consolidation.
The company issued a statement yesterday, saying: “The Radeberger Group AG wants to play a continuing role in the consolidation of the German beer market.” Consolidation within the Geman beer market has been gaining pace ove rthe last year or so with international brewers such as Interbrew entering the market..
Holsten, which had previously been the top brewer, is up for sale, with Carlsberg, Bitburger Brauerei and a third buyer vying for the company. Brau und Brunnen has also been a takeover target for most of this year, although its majority owner HVB announced last week that it remains committed to the company after talks with a US private equity house collapsed.
Reuters reported yesterday that no one from Holsten or Radeberger was available for further comment.
