The US alcoholic beverage industry’s chief regulator has split into two units following President Bush’s signing of the Homeland Security Bill late last year.

The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau will remain in the Treasury Department and continue collecting and regulating alcohol and tobacco tax revenues.

The renamed Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will enforce laws relating to alcohol and tobacco smuggling, firearms, explosives and arson under the auspices of the Justice Department.
