Interbrew, Belgium’s biggest brewer, is considering legal action against the Slovenian competition authorities if the green light is given for a takeover by the country’s largest brewer of the second largest.

The country’s competition authority is considering whether to let Pivovarna Lasko, Slovenia’s largest brewer, take over Pivovarna Union. A decision is expected today.
Interbrew controls 41% of Union while Lasko controls 48%. The two have been battling for control of the brewer for about a year.

“If the competition authority says: ‘Lasko, go ahead’…one of the options we have is to go to court,” Interbrew spokesman Corneel Maes said today.
