The Danish brewing group, Carlsberg, has increased its stake its Polish subsidiary, Carlsberg Okocim, by 3.5% and now controls almost 75% of the Polish brewer.

The Danish company is thought to have acquired the additional 3.5%, or 1m shares from the German brewer, Bitburger. The sale was reported to have been conducted outside the regular Stock Exchange session.

Last year, Okocim, which has around 14% of the Polish beer market, posted an operating profit of PLN7.6m and a net profit of PLN2.8m. In 2001, Carlsberg has undertaken not to increase its stake beyond a 75% threshold and keep Okocim as a publicly-traded company until Poland joins the EU.
