Pepsi has withdrawn its petition to the Indian High Court, according to Indian press reports. The company filed a petition challenging the findings of a report into the possible existence of pesticides in colas.
The report, compiled by the Centre for Science and Environment, had concluded that colas in India contained high levels of pesticides. A Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) was subsequently set up to investigate the Centre’s findings. Pepsi had filed its petition after the report was released but before the JPC was created.
Pepsi said it has “full faith” in the JPC enquiry, according to Asia Pulse. In its affidavit withdrawing the petition, Pepsi said: “In view of the developments that have taken place since filing of the petition, it would be in the interest of justice that the petitioners (Pepsi) present their case before the JPC.”
Asia Pulse reports that the company said that under such circumstances it would be appropriate to withdraw the petition and to seek liberty to approach the court as and when the need arises and none of the respondents would be prejudiced.
