The GBP4.5m (US$6.4m) donation will contribute to the setting up of Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) Oxygen Plants at Government-run hospitals in 21 districts across the country. The sum will also fund the creation of prefabricated 16-bed units with PSA oxygen plants in 15 separate districts.

The remaining funding will be allocated to providing medical equipment including oxygen concentrators, oxygen cylinders, ventilator beds and other devices for public hospitals.

“At a time when the country is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, we want to support the Government’s efforts and stand by the citizens of India,” said Diageo’s India CEO, Anand Kripalu. “The demand for long term medical infrastructure, especially hospital units, hospital beds and oxygen is what is needed most. We hope our contribution will help play a part in India’s recovery.”

In December, the company revealed Kripalu would be stepping down in June, to be replaced by Hina Nagarajan, who served as MD of the group’s ‘Africa Emerging Markets’ division between August 2018 and March this year.
