In an inspiring collaboration, three enterprising Greek Women Winemakers hailing from the Peloponnese Region have united their efforts to showcase their region and wines across selected countries globally. 

The Peloponnese peninsula, situated in the southernmost part of mainland Greece, has long been renowned for its vineyard cultivation, dating back to ancient times. References to wine production can be traced back to the 2nd millennium BC, with notable mentions of Dionysus, the ancient Greek god of wine. The Peloponnese stands out with the largest concentration of vineyards and wineries, producing an impressive array of registered wine types, surpassing other wine-producing regions in Greece.

Within this peninsula, prominent wine regions include the PGI Arkadia, centrally located, the picturesque PGI Slopes of Aigialeia with its mountainous vineyards facing the Corinthian Gulf, and PGI Achaia near Patras. These regions, along with others falling under the PGI Peloponnese denomination, offer a diverse range of wine styles crafted from both native Greek and international grape varieties such as Roditis Fox, Sideritis, Malagousia, Assyrtiko, Mavrodaphne, Viognier, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Syrah.

Sosanna Katsikosta, as the Head Winemaker of Acheon Winery, is dedicated to crafting exceptional wines that reflect the unique varieties of her homeland. With a French education and experience in renowned Chateaux, Katsikosta meticulously tends to Roditis Fox, Sideritis, and Mavrodaphne in the PGI Achaia and PDO Patras regions, producing wines with distinct identities.

Katerina Bosinakis and her brothers, proprietors of Bosinakis Winery, concentrate on their expertise in cultivating the Moschofilero grape. They carefully manage small plots of single vineyard wines, yielding low quantities per acre, and collaborate with trusted growers to create distinctive labels. Their devotion to winemaking contributes to the PDO Mantinia and PGI Arcadia viticultural zones. Pioneering the exploration of Moschofilero’s ageing potential, they seek complexity while upholding elegance.

Theodora Rouvali, a resourceful winemaker and viticulturist with international experience, deep wine knowledge, and dynamic enthusiasm, assumed leadership of the Rouvalis winery in 2017, infusing it with new vitality. Since 1990, the groundbreaking gravity-flow Rouvalis winery in the heart of Aigialeia has been producing wines. The unique terroir of Aigialeia, characterized by altitude, rocky formations, thoughtfully chosen parcels of land, and terraced vineyards overlooking the Corinthian Gulf, provides an exceptional setting for “heroic viticulture,” making it one of the world’s captivating viticultural zones.
