William Grant & Sons’ Speyside distillery, The Balvenie, has unveiled three single malts from its namesake brand's 'Cask Finishes' line. The Balvenie Pedro Ximénez Cask 18-year-old, which has an abv of 48.7%, and the Madeira Cask 15-year-old - 43% abv - will be available exclusively in the Global Travel Retail channel from 1 April. A third, The Balvenie French Oak Cask 16-year-old, - 47.6%, will roll out to the UK market. In the EU, William Grant has lined up a number of promotions with GTR operator Heinemann to stock the 18- and 15-year-olds in Amsterdam Schiphol, Copenhagen, Berlin, Budapest, Vienna and Munich airports. The pair will also be sold in airports including Seoul Incheon, Hainan and Jeju Taoyuan in Asia. “The (GTR) channel has always been about discovery, offering consumers the opportunity to find something new and different, yet with the confidence of brand knowledge and integrity,” said William Grant's head of consumer marketing for GTR, Lindsay Hitzeroth. “As travel now begins to show real recovery in the aftermath of COVID, we will continue to inspire and engage consumers.” This week, the UK authorities lifted the long-running 25% retaliatory tariff that had been implemented on whiskey coming from the US.
