Many of the figures in the report, alarming though they appear, will be contested, not least the definition of “binge-drinking” itself which is interpreted in many different ways. But the impact in terms of negative publicity for the alcohol industry is undeniable.
US: Report suggests higher youth binge drinking
A report published recently in the US suggests under-age drinking is a more widespread and extensive problem in the US than had been previously thought. The report from the Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University suggests that as many as five million high-school-age children binge drink at least once a month and that underage drinking comprises nearly 25% of all alcoholic purchases in the United States.
