Coca-Cola Co has publicly opposed any government intervention in the current obesity argument. At an industry conference in New York yesterday, Coke chairman and chief executive Douglas Daft said: “A simplistic government solution will not address the issue,” Reuters reports.

Daft feels that the soft-drink companies need to work together to provide choices for consumers. He said that parents, teachers and schools need to play a more active role in helping children make sensible choices.

The rising trend of obesity among Americans has put pressure on food and beverage companies in the US to act.
