Asahi Breweries plans to launch more versions of its robot bartender, Mr Asahi, in UK bars as part of a plan to significantly increase beer sales in the country.

Created by marketing and advertising team the Blue Crayon, Mr Asahi has been helping Asahi sell beer in London by opening bottles and serving its bottled beer, Asahi Super Dry.

Now, the Japanese brewer has said it will dispatch a dozen Mr Asahi robots to outlets in other cities, such as Liverpool and Manchester.

Asahi is looking to grow UK beer sales to 500,000 cases in 2012, representing a 70% increase on 2009 volumes.

It also hopes to double the number of establishments where its keg beer is served to 1,000.

UK brewer Shepherd Neame holds the licensing agreement for the production and sale of Asahi Super Dry in the UK.
