UK customs officers have found a haul of smuggled whisky thought to be worth in the region of £140,000 in evaded duty. The whisky is thought to be contaminated methylated spirits, according to reports on the BBC website.
Totalling more than 14,000 one-litres bottles, the haul was made in Poole in Dorset, in the back of a Portuguese truck, which had arrived on a ferry yesterday morning.

The two drivers with the lorry were questioned and released without charge.
Customs officials used the news of the catchment to warn the public that buying and drinking smuggled alcohol was dangerous.
Customs and Excise spokesman Bob Gaiger said: “At best, dubious quality or counterfeit whisky may contain very little alcohol and at worst it could be contaminated with methylated spirits which would pose a serious health hazard to anyone drinking it.”
