Western wines predicted that its Kumala range would sell more than 2.4m cases of wine in the UK this year, up from the 2m cases last year.

MD, Mike Paul, in South Africa for the launch of Kumala on the domestic market, said Western Wines UK turnover for the year had for the first time topped £100m, of which 60% came from its South African operations.

He said the UK’s largest family-owned wine importer outside the US and Australia, was responsible for a third of South African imports. This included marketing agreements with African Terroir, Douglas Green Bellingham, Origin Wines and Villiera.

Paul also hinted that Western Wines would be announcing a new brand in the UK in the next few weeks, but did not want to expand on it until everything was in place.
