Remy Cointreau has launched what it claims to be the first Scotch whisky to be produced using biodynamic methods.

Bruichladdich’s ‘The Biodynamic Project’ uses grain from a pesticide- and fertiliser-free farm in England that has been distilled then aged for ten years in ex-Bourbon casks at the brand’s distillery on Islay. The expression, which is available online from 16 November, is limited to 5,000 units.

“When we started distilling our organic, Islay-grown and Bere barley expressions, it was driven by the curiosity to seek new and diverse flavours in Scotch whisky,” said the company’s head distiller, Adam Hannett. “We’re delighted to know the positive impact these grains have on the environment.”

In August, Remy launched two expressions from Bruichladdich that were made with “vintage” barley.
