According to OHMG Brands co-founder Stuart Walsh, magnesium is an alternative to CBD but without the regulatory issues around hemp-derived ingredients. Each 33cl can of OHMG contains the amount of magnesium equal to that in an avocado.

“We’re going in a completely different direction [to CBD] by using a high quality, bioavailable magnesium as it’s an incredibly important nutrient that plays a role in more than 300 functions in our body,” Walsh added.

Speaking to Just Drinks last month, Nick Taranto, the co-founder of US functional sparkling water brand Hop Wtr, said he made the “deliberate decision to avoid CBD, because of the regulatory landmines out there”.

According to Taranto, CBD regulation is a “grey area” in the US.
