New Riff Distilling is the latest Kentucky Bourbon distiller to invest in more capacity, unveiling plans for a US$2m expansion of its operations.
The independent company said yesterday it will double the capacity of its Newport site with upgrades including three new fermenters. The changes will allow the distillery, located across the Kentucky river from Cincinnati, to produce 12,000 barrels per year, up from 8,000.
According to New Riff, the upcoming expansion aims to solve a production bottleneck.
“We remain committed to becoming one of the great small distilleries of the world,” co-founder Ken Lewis said. “This expansion will help us achieve that goal while remaining a family-owned business with no outside ownership.”
New Riff’s announcement follows two separate plans from Brown-Forman to double the capacity at Kentucky distilleries. In February, the group announced an expansion to its Louisville facility, which produces liquid for brands including Woodford Reserve and Old Forester. The US$95m expansion is expected to take more than two years to complete.
Last month, Brown-Forman revealed plans to double capacity at the Woodford Reserve Distillery in Versailles, near Lexington.
