Kingsland Drinks has unveiled the first three brands to join its new craft spirits division, including an Indonesian rum and an Australian gin.

The spirits unit, called Ten Locks, said today that Nusa Cana rum, Applewood Gin and West Cork Irish Whiskey will kick off the venture. The division aims to build up to a portfolio of about 20 brands focussed on the on- and off-premise channels.

Becky Davies, who leads Ten Locks, said: “Through these first spirits, the portfolio is starting to speak for itself; brands of quality, distinction and purpose. They bring new tastes, fresh perspectives and true sense of excitement to the on-trade and off-trade.”

The 40%-abv Nusa Cana rum is made in Bali and uses nutmeg and clove combined with ginger, coffee, cacao and pineapple. The 43%-abv Australian gin Applewood is produced with botanicals including desert limes, wattle seed and peppermint gum. West Cork Irish Whiskey is owned by West Cork Distillers, a southern Irish distillery that already sells its brands in about 70 countries.

Speaking to just-drinks in July about the then-unnamed Ten Locks, Davies said the unit will carry a roster of third-party premium spirits brands as well as launch its own products in categories including RTDs and soft drinks. The unit aims to couple the off-premise distribution capabilities of Kingsland with on-premise expertise draughted in to run the business.
