The Italian wines and spirits group, Campari, has said that it is looking for further wine acquisitions. The company hinted after the publication of its annual results that its acquisition spree was likely to continue, but chief executive, Marco Perelli-Cippo, told analysts that it was particularly on the lookout for wine producers of a certain scale and type.

“We are looking at wine producers that concentrate on production and have revenues that complement our own figures,” Perelli-Cippo said. “We want to lead the consolidation of the Italian wine market (and become) a wine producing centre where we can present to our clients…a full assortment.”

“The main obstacle to creating a “house of Italian wine” is that the producers are very fragmented, have a strong attachment ot their properties and do not want to give up control. But I’m not giving up,” Perelli-Cippo added.
